I’m a huge fan of drugstore/highstreet brands and I’ll always turn to the drugstore before high end. Whilst I was having a bit of a tidy the other week I realised just how much drugstore makeup I own, with certain products living on my dressing table and others just getting shoved to the back of my drawers..
It has to be said, there really isn’t one certain brand that I favour more than others, for me there is something that stands out from all the brands whether it be a cult beauty product or one of my personal favourites.
No one quite does mascara like Maybelline, although I was pretty loyal to my L’oreal Telescopic mascara, the Great Lash mascara really is quite incredible. I think most people have a love hate relationship with it, but for me it has the perfect size brush, not too big so that it becomes awkward and not too small that you have to put on loads of layers. My recent purchase, the Big Eyes mascara has also lived up to my expectations and it’s safe to say it has knocked my L’oreal Telescopic of the top spot.
There’s a lot to love about Rimmel, an iconic British brand that really is one step ahead of the game. Although I’m not a huge fan of all their products for me their Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal liners are a real winner. They come in about 6 shades and I own 2 of the nude shades, I think one is called taupe (I stare at Rimmel shades all day so why I don’t know the shade is beyond me) and I also have the blue one. The formula is incredibly creamy so the liners glide onto your eyelids rather than pulling which I find most liners do. I use the nude shades on my waterline and it really doe help brighten your eyes. The blue is a pretty statement shade but it’s such an amazing colour for the lash line when you want something a bit different.
I really don’t think it comes as a surprise that I would be talking about the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation as I’ve probably mentioned a thousand times that it is my all time favourite foundation ever. Ever. I can’t even begin to explain how much I love it but I can safely say there isn’t another foundation that works as well for me. The shades are a bit off but with a bit bronzer I don’t have to worry. There hasn’t been a foundation I’ve loved more than this and although I’ve been trying out different ones, I always come back to this.
I don’t often talk about products that I really dislike on my blog but it just had to be done. As I mentioned that Rimmel get it pretty right with most products, it has to be said they do get it really wrong at times too. I just can’t get over how much I hate this mascara. The brush is far too big that I’m surprised I haven’t poked my eye out. When ever I apply it, it just looks so clumpy and messy, it doesn’t separate my lashes, or lengthen or volumise them so I really don’t know what it’s meant to be doing. I keep wanting to give this mascara a better a chance but to be honest every time I’ve used it, I end up using Bioderma to take off the mascara and I end up wearing something else. Please tell me other people dislike this mascara too?!
When I first found out about the Bourjois chocolate bronzer I felt like my dreams had come true. Makeup that smells like chocolate? That really is the way to a woman’s heart. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this bronzer and as a huge fan of Bourjois i had so many high hopes for it. Besides the fact that the bronzer smells like chocolate so good that I want to eat it, the formula and colour pay off really are awful. No matter how many times I’ve tried this it just does nothing. Although I like the colour I’d have to put a ridiculous number of layers before I got any colour payoff onto my face and the formula really doesn’t seem to sit that well on the skin either. I know the bronzing powder is so hyped up by many beauty bloggers but to be honest, it’s one of the worst bronzers I’ve ever tried.
What are your most used drugstore/highstreet products? And which ones didn’t live up to your expectations, let me know!
